We bid each other a sad farewell,

同(tong)是(shì)宦(huàn)游(yóu)人(rén)。
We two officials going opposite ways…

海(hǎi) 内(nèi) 存(cún) 知(zhī) 己(jǐ)，
And yet, while China holds our friendship.

天(tiān)涯(yá)若(ruò)比(bǐ)邻(lín)。
And heaven remains our neighborhood,

无(wú) 为(wéi) 在(zài) 歧(qí) 路(lù)，
Why should you linger at the fork of the road,

Wiping your eyes like a heart-broken child.
